The koi you recieve have been off food to clean out system and keep bag water healthy.  Bag water may have high ammonia and very low ph.  Koi are protected from ammonia by low PH.  Also note that our source water is hard (high GH) but should not need to adjust for this in QT setup, koi can handle the GH change.  QT tanks that are round and have soft sides are good for koi, as bumping into sides is decreases with round containers and less damage with soft sides.  Try to provide relazing and low stress environment for koi in QT, floating plants or covers may help.

QT system should be ready with fresh healthy water.  Best if heated to 70+ if in cool climate.  Full water tests should be done ahead of time, including for chlorine.

Float bag for 15-30 minutes in QT while still sealed.

Float or set aside a bowl or Tub of QT water.

Open bag and remove fish and place in bowl/tub to inspect.  You don't want to keep koi in open shipping bag for long period b/c oxygen and toxicity of ammonia increases as ph rises.  If significant amount of bag water is released in bowl/tub you also want to move quickly for same reason.

 Release Koi in QT system.
