Raising fish has always been his love since young age. Kevin Pham resided in Himeji Japan in 1979 at the age of 9 until 1982 where he first saw colorful Nishikigoi swimming in a Japanese garden pond and feel in love with them ever since.  Living near a koi farm, Kevin often visited breeder facility to see many beautiful koi.

Kevin started his business Genki Nishikigoi in 1990.  "Genki" embodies the spirit of our koi, it is a Japanese word meaning 'lively, healthy and vigorous'.  Kevin's mission is to introduce high quality Nishikigoi and educate his clients in koi appreciation.  With high demand and strong support from many clients across the US, he relocated to a bigger location in 1997 for more pond space and water.

Living in Japan for nearly 3 years, Kevin not only speaks Japanese but also understand the culture.  This has made dealings and established strong relationships with many breeders.  With this support, Kevin is able to buy quality koi at fair prices and have access to many breeders' best koi including tategoi.

In 1999, Kevin was invited to join the All Japan Combined Nishikigoi Shinkokai Promotion Association, the biggest professional organization in the world.  Being a member allowed him to judge the All Japan Tokyo show in 2000.  Genki supplied koi have won many top honors at the All Japan Show including "Shubetsu Nippon Ichi", "Sakurasho", "Yusho Jiseki" and numerous Grand Champion here in the US.

Kevin travels throughout Japan several times a year to hand select the highest quality koi direct from some of the finest breeders.  He also rents mud ponds to grow out his tategoi and grow out others under breeders care.  Aside from hand select stock, he also imports 17 to 20 shipments a year for both wholesale and retail clients so there are always plenty of stock to choose from.  All our imports are carefully heat quarantined for 1 month to insure only healthy koi upon purchase and arrival.  A big percentage of his prized koi are serology tested and certified.  Kevin provides this test for his client's upon request.
